Users of the Apple MacBook Pro (16-inch) are having trouble charging the laptop using MagSafe. According to user posts on Reddit, a significant number of customers are reporting that when their laptop is switched off and the lid is closed, their MagSafe 3 connector fails to give the promised charge. The new M1 Pro and M1 Max CPUs were introduced in Apple's MacBook Pro (2021) models in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes in October of this year.
The charging problem with the 16-inch MacBook Pro was initially discovered in a Reddit thread by a user known as Trillionaire. An accompanying video was used to report the problem. According to the post, the user's MacBook Pro model does not charge when totally shut down when the MagSafe 3 connection cable is put in. The MagSafe indicator is alleged to flash amber continuously instead of turning green (showing complete charge), indicating that the MacBook's battery is not being recharged. The thread drew the attention of a number of people who were affected. The problem has also been reported on Apple's support page, with one customer claiming that Apple has promised to replace their 16-inch MacBook Pro.
The Apple support page has tips for ensuring MagSafe's proper operation, however many claim that they are of little benefit to them.
