The Verge: "Facebook plans to rebrand the company with a new name"

According to the Verge, which cited a person with firsthand knowledge of the subject, Facebook is going to rebrand itself with a new name next week to reflect its focus on developing the metaverse. According to The Verge, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wants to discuss the name change during the company's annual Connect conference on 28th of October 2021, although it might be revealed sooner.

A metaverse is a shared virtual world environment that may be accessed over the Internet. The word can apply to digital places that have been enhanced using virtual reality or augmented reality to make them more lifelike. According to the source, the renaming would likely portray Facebook's social networking app as one of several products under a parent corporation that will manage companies such as Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, and others.

Facebook has said that it does not respond to rumors or conjecture. Facebook revealed intentions to recruit 10,000 workers in the European Union to help create the metaverse earlier this week. "The metaverse has the potential to open up new creative, social, and economic possibilities. And it will be shaped by Europeans from the start "In a blog post, Facebook stated.

"Highly specialized engineers" would be among the European hiring, but the firm provided little further information about the new metaverse team. "The EU offers a lot of benefits that make it a fantastic destination for digital businesses to invest, including a big consumer market, world-class universities, and, most importantly, top-tier talent," according to the blog post.
