A group of Softwarica College students unveiled a four-wheeled mobility wheelchair designed for the people with disabilities on the occasion of Disability Day. The electric wheelchair is equipped with all of the features of a car. On a full charge, this electric vehicle can travel 35 to 40 kilometers. Similarly, this 48-volt vehicle travels at a top speed of 17 kilometers per hour. Wheelchairs are said to be capable of being used on unpaved roads.
The wheelchair was built in collaboration with the National Innovation Center, according to Bigyan Shrestha, president of the college, and future marketing will be handled by the Innovation Center. The National Innovation Center and the college are said to share the wheelchair's patent rights. It's made to be simple to operate by the user. With the help of the internet, this vehicle can also be controlled via a mobile application. Wheelchairs were created by a team consisting of Nirajan Gautam, Ganesh Aryal, Ayush Kazi Dangol, Bipas Chhantyal, Albert Maharjan, Raj Shrestha, and Anish Shrestha.
Users can use the mobile app to perform functions such as driving and locating, according to student Nirajan Gautam. Similarly, if a user becomes disoriented or his vehicle breaks down, the app sends the user's location to the emergency contact number. In case if there is no internet, the user's location message will automatically be sent to the number listed in the emergency contact, and when the user clicks on that message, the user's location will be displayed on that mobile. According to Gautam, the vehicle was designed with for the people with disabilities so that they can travel freely.
He claimed that this vehicle ensured the safety of disabled people as well as their mobility. Softwarica College of IT and e-Commerce in Kathmandu, which teaches IT courses at Coventry University in the United Kingdom, established an innovation hub for BIT students last year. In the same innovation hub, the students created a four-wheeled mobility wheelchair.
