Amazon plans to hire 1,500 additional apprentices in the United Kingdom in 2022. The internet behemoth announced 40 degree-level apprenticeship programs, including new programs in publishing, commerce, and marketing, as well as a program focusing on environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG).
Amazon says it increased its permanent employment in the United Kingdom by 25,000 in 2021, bringing the total to 70,000. The company had earlier stated that it will generate 10,000 jobs in 2021 and have 55,000 permanent employees by the end of the year.
It did, however, hire an extra 15,000 people for its fulfillment centers, sort centers, and delivery stations around the UK, as well as corporate and R&D activities. Amazon claims to have invested GBP 32 billion in the UK since 2010, although it doesn't specify how much.
It opened its first 17 physical locations in the UK in 2021, including 15 Amazon Fresh food stores in London and two Amazon 4-star retail stores in London and Kent, which sell a variety of Amazon and UK small company items.
