SONY: Sony will beta test ‘Hey PlayStation!’ voice commands for the PS5

Sony will begin rolling out the second PS5 software beta, which will include party chat updates, new UI settings, and a sneak peek at a voice command feature. Your PS5 can listen for the "Hey PlayStation!" voice command to discover and access games, applications, and settings, as well as control playback during a program or song, according to Sony's beta blog. You can turn the function off in settings if you don't want to utilize it.

For beta users with accounts registered in the United States and the United Kingdom, the voice command feature will be available first in English. Party conversations are also getting a makeover from Sony. Parties have replaced voice conversations, and you can now select whether a party is open or closed, allowing your friends to attend without an invitation.

For the time being, though, only other beta members may join open parties. Other new features include the ability to keep certain games or apps on the Home screen, improvements to the design of trophy cards, and more screen reader languages. On the PlayStation blog, you can find a complete list of features. The software upgrades for both the PS5 and PS4 will be available to everyone later this year, according to Sony.

If you want to be a part of the PS5 beta, you can sign up here on Sony's website, and if you're chosen, Sony claims you'll get an email on Wednesday when the game is available. For a chance to test PS4 betas, sign up here. Of course, the usual beta warnings apply: there's always the possibility of glitches, and Sony warns that not all of the features in the betas will make it to the final version.
