Nepal Telecommunication Authority organizes “Fair Digital Consumer for Digital Transformation”, aims to raise awareness on Fair Digital Consumer Rights

Every year on the 15 th of March, the consumer movement commemorates ‘World Consumer Rights Day’ to raise global awareness of consumer rights and demands. Celebrating the day is an opportunity to urge that all consumers' rights be recognized and safeguarded, as well as to protest market abuses and social injustices that jeopardize those rights. President John F. Kennedy inspired World Consumer Rights Day by sending a special statement to the US Congress on the 15 th of March, 1962, in which he explicitly addressed the topic of consumer rights.

Likewise, on the occasion of this year’s World Consumer Rights Day, Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) is organizing an event tomorrow on 15 th of March, 2022, that is entitled “Fair Digital Consumer for Digital Transformation”. NTA organizes the event, which is managed by Global Spark Pvt Ltd, in commemoration of World Consumer Rights Day, which raises global awareness of consumer rights, protection, and empowerment. The event will be streamed live on various websites and Facebook pages.

The event begins with an official opening, followed by panelists' opening remarks and panel discussions on digital consumers and their rights. Fair Digital Consumer Rights in Nepal requires a lot of attention due to its undervaluation in terms of consumer rights in Nepal. This event's sole purpose is to raise public awareness and educate the general public about this critical issue, which will undoubtedly improve their lives. The goal of the event is to bring together all possible stakeholders from the private and public sectors in order to best educate the general public on this topic.

The event plays an important role in raising awareness about digital finance, digital education, and digital security, all of which are still in short supply in Nepal. All stakeholders and experts in the field of digital consumer rights, as well as consumer rights in general, will present their perspectives on digital consumer rights in Nepal at this event. There will be a discussion of the government's digital consumer rights plans and policies. It also brings together experts in the fields of digital connectivity, tariffs, and security on a single stage.

The panel discussion will also be held at the event on “Fair Digital Consumer for Digital Transformation”. Arjun Ghimire, Director of NTA,  Guru Prasad Paudel, Executive Director of Payment System Department of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), Sangita Pahadi, Chief Commercial Officer of Nepal Telecom, Sudhir Parajuli, President of ISPAN, Aanchal Kunwar, Managing Director, of Daraz Nepal , Aalok Subedi , Co-Founder and CEO of MeroAdda and Hempal Shrestha, ICT Specialist are among the panelists.

The conclusion includes a collective result in the form of a draft policy that must be implemented in order to achieve the digital consumer ecosystem's goal. Ministers and secretaries from various ministries, provincial ministers and high-ranking officials, political leaders, government officers, policymakers, stakeholders, academicians, industry and corporate representatives, and consumer rights specialists and officers The general public will be required to pre-register in order to participate in the event. The event will be held at Royal Singi Hotel, Durbar Marg, Kathmandu, Nepal.
