GOOGLE: A bug in Google Messages might be draining your battery

According to 9to5Google, a recent glitch in Google's Messages app for Android phones left the camera running in the background, which is a way to heat up your phone while also draining the battery. You can quickly take a photo right from the Google Messages app and attach it to a chat message.

The camera app would sometimes stay running even when you weren't using it as per 9to5Google post. In a Reddit community, same problem was also reported with a Pixel 6 Pro. We were unable to duplicate the problem. Whether your phone is particularly hot or the battery is draining rapidly, check to see if your camera is still on — or just slide the Messages app off the Recents display to close it off.

You may also completely block Messages from using your camera by navigating to Settings > Apps > Messages > Permissions > Camera and selecting "Don't allow." However, it's possible that this isn't essential. The error has been detected, according to Scott Westover, Google's communications manager, and a remedy is presently being rolled out to users.
