The most advanced mobile hotspot yet has C-band 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, and 2.5Gbps Ethernet!!!

Netgear and AT&T have unveiled the most remarkable mobile hotspot yet: a four-inch puck that claims to transform the newest, fastest flavors of 5G and Wi-Fi into fast internet for your laptops, tablets, and even wired PCs. It's called the Netgear Nighthawk M6 Pro, and it's not cheap at $459.99.

However, it outperforms its predecessors in almost every regard. It's not just one of the first hotspots with both usable C-band 5G frequencies and fast-but-spotty mmWave, but AT&T claims it's also the first with Wi-Fi 6E for 3.6Gbps wireless transfer rates. It also has a 2.5Gbps ethernet connection for connected devices, whereas its predecessor's wired speeds were limited to gigabit.

It boasts a USB 3.2 Type-C connection for charging and tethering, as well as a pair of external TS9 antenna connectors and a large 5,040mAh replaceable battery behind the 2.8-inch display. To "lower power consumption and increase battery life," the M6 Pro is set to 5GHz-only mode out of the box – which peaks out at 2.9Gbps, not 3.6Gbps. (Not that you'd need mmWave to find a 3.6Gbps 5G internet connection in the wild.)

The 2.5Gbps ethernet port is blocked by default for the same reason, and you can only enable it after removing the router's battery pack and plugging it into an A/C converter. Despite such battery-saving tactics, Netgear claims that the M6 Pro will only last six hours of YouTube watching (plus a few hours of idle), down from nine hours with its predecessor. Battery life may be much lower if you use mmWave and 6GHz Wi-Fi 6E at maximum speed.
