NTA: Authority requests to provide information on cryptocurrency related websites and apps

The Nepal Telecom Authority has asked for information on cryptocurrency, hyperfund online gambling websites, and apps. The authority has issued a notice stating cryptocurrency and hyper-fund online gambling are illegal in Nepal, and has asked for information on any websites, apps, or social media sites that are linked to it.

"Transactions using digital technology, such as virtual currency and network marketing, which are not legally recognized as monetary instruments in Nepal, have been on the rise in recent times. Using, operating, and managing virtual media, such as online cryptocurrency, bitcoin, hyper networking, and illegal activities such as online gambling and financial crime-related websites, apps, and online networks through online technology, must be prohibited, disabled, and blacklisted, so this information has been made available to all.

If any websites, apps, or online networks, or any information related to them, shall be reported to the authority at the following email address." according to the statement. Since illegal activities such as cryptocurrency, bitcoin, hyper networking, online gambling and financial crime activities through online technology and virtual media are illegal and criminal activities, NTA has informed everyone not to be engaged on doing such things.

If anyone is found to have committed or carried out such activities, the authority has warned that legal action will be taken in accordance with the law. The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) issued a letter to all internet service providers on 14 th of March, 2022, directing them to ban the use of online cryptocurrency, bitcoin, hyper networking, online gambling, and other websites and apps.
