Apple unveils rental tool kit to let you fix your iPhone under self-service repair program

The Self Service Fix Program, which began earlier this week for iPhone users in the United States and will launch in Europe later this year, has added a rental tool set to allow consumers to quickly repair their iPhone. Depending on the iPhone model you're planning to repair, there are multiple variants of the kit. According to the firm, each tool kit comprises a complete set of the equipment needed to repair the specified iPhone.

The tool set can be kept with the user for up to seven days. The tool set for fixing the iPhone is offered for a weekly rental fee of $49.00 through the Self Service Repair Store website. For each iPhone model that may be fixed under the Self Service Repair Program — the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, and iPhone SE.

Apple has made several versions of the tool kit available for rent (2022). When placed on top of each other, each tool set is 20 inches wide by 47 inches high. The tool kit is only available in one case for the iPhone SE (2022), however it is available in two cases for all qualifying iPhone models. The cases aren't exactly light. One case in the tool kit weighted 43 pounds (19.50kg), while the other weighed 36 pounds, according to Apple (16.33kg).

Each case, thankfully, has roller wheels. The heated display removal fixture, heated display pocket, battery press, display press, adhesive cutter, display and back protective covers, screwdrivers, and bits are among the equipment included in the set. All of this is stuff that you could need while self-repairing. You must return the borrowed tool set after your task is completed. If any of the tools are missing or damaged, Apple may charge you extra — on top of the rent you've already paid.
