SPOTIFY: Anchor co-founder Michael Mignano to leave Spotify

Michael Mignano, the co-founder of Anchor and Spotify's podcasting tech leader for the previous three years, resigned last week, according to the business. He'll be leaving at the end of June. The reorganization comes after two other high-profile departures from Spotify's podcasting division.

Courtney Holt, the company's head of studios and video, who secured blockbuster agreements with Joe Rogan and the Obamas, announced her departure last month. Lydia Polgreen, the director of Gimlet Media, announced her leaving for The New York Times in April. In 2015, Mignano co-founded Anchor, a DIY podcast distributor.

Spotify paid more than $150 million for the company in 2019 and hired Mignano as its top podcast tech czar, managing the firm's rapid podcast development and push into live audio. Anchor has become the most popular podcast hosting platform, despite the fact that it has yet to spawn any huge audio stars.

According to Livewire Labs, Anchor is responsible for one out of every four new podcast episodes released. Spotify has used the service to expand its podcast collection. Anchor currently hosts 4 million podcasts, up from 1 million in 2020, and the business claims that 85 percent of new podcasts are uploaded through the platform.
