Xbox Series X, Series S Now Support Dolby Vision Gaming

The Xbox Series X and Series S now support Dolby Vision, which promises to provide gamers around the world a better experience. Microsoft initially announced Dolby Vision improvement for the newest Xbox gaming systems last year, along with Dolby Atmos compatibility for gaming.

The update is said to provide “full-spectrum visuals” to in-game features including lush jungles and bright future cities, as well as vibrant colors. The Xbox Series X and Series S have become the first game consoles to support Dolby Vision with the newest update. Dolby Vision will be available in over 100 next-generation HDR games optimized for Xbox Series X and Series S, according to Microsoft. Halo Infinite, developed by 343 Industries, was one of the first games to get Dolby Atmos support early this year.

In addition to delivering Dolby Vision to game titles, Microsoft and Dolby collaborated to improve the visual experience of traditional HDR10 and Auto HDR games using Dolby Vision technology. Thousands of games will provide an enhanced experience on Dolby Vision-enabled TV models, according to Microsoft.

Nearly all native HDR games optimized for Xbox Series X and Series S, such as Psychonauts 2, Gears 5, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps, are expected to be released in Dolby Vision in the future.By adding Dolby Vision gaming to the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, Microsoft hopes to elevate the user experience. Dolby Vision compatibility for games, according to the firm, will deliver more vibrant colors to the screen and assist gamers identify opponents lurking in shadows and find concealed clues.

This will be made feasible by Dolby Vision's increased contrast and improved clarity in both bright and dark situations, according to the firm. Dolby Vision games instantly map to any monitor that supports the proprietary technology, resulting in enhanced brightness, color, contrast, and detail.

The technique is also compatible with Xbox Series X and Series S capabilities such as DirectX Raytracing, automated low-latency mode (ALLM), and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). Microsoft and Dolby are also collaborating with TV makers to allow Dolby Vision at a refresh rate of 120Hz for compatible models.

On Xbox Series X and Series S, how do you activate Dolby Vision gaming?

On the Xbox Series X and Series S, go to Settings > General > TV & display settings > Video Modes > Dolby Vision for Gaming to enable Dolby Vision.

It's worth noting that Dolby Vision gaming on Xbox Series X and Series S need a Dolby Vision-enabled TV. To experience next-generation gaming, activate options such as ALLM or VRR if you have a suitable TV.

Go to Settings > General TV & display settings > 4K TV information to see if your display supports Dolby Vision.

Dolby promised to introduce Dolby Vision gaming on Xbox Series X and Series S in September of last year. Dolby Vision was integrated in both new gaming consoles, allowing users to stream video from applications like Netflix and watch movies on Blu-ray discs.

Microsoft has supported Dolby Atmos for media content since its inception, and it was made available for games last year.Dolby Vision compatibility for video content was also featured in the previous-generation Xbox One X.

It also supported Dolby Vision for video games, although this did not make it past the testing stage. Microsoft is taking on Sony's PlayStation 5, which does not support Dolby's technology but does support conventional HDR10, by adding Dolby Vision gaming on Xbox Series X and Series S.
