TikTok, PUBG Mobile Top-Earning, Most Downloaded Apps Worldwide in Q3 2021

According to Sensor Tower's newest research, TikTok and PUBG Mobile are the highest-earning applications on both the App Store and Google Play Store in the third quarter of 2021. While TikTok was the most popular app worldwide, PUBG was the most popular game worldwide. Both apps are said to have received the most downloads in their respective categories.

According to the research, consumer spending on the TikTok app increased by 41% year over year (YoY). Sensor Tower's TikTok income numbers include Douyin on iOS in China. Consumer spending on PUBG Mobile allegedly increased by 11 percent year over year in the third quarter.

According to Sensor Tower's newest research on app expenditure in Q3 2021, total consumer spending on in-app purchases, premium applications, and subscriptions increased 15.1 percent year over year to $33.6 billion across Apple's App Store and Google Play. Google Play was the driving force behind the increase, with consumer spending increasing 18.6% year over year to $12.1 billion.

While the App Store's growth was modest, consumer spending increased by 13.2 percent year over year to $21.5 billion. According to Sensor Tower statistics, TikTok was the highest-earning app overall in Q3. Overall, Manga reader Piccoma came in second, with revenue up 130 percent year over year, followed by YouTube, with consumer expenditure up 17 percent year over year.

At number four and five, respectively, Google One and Disney+ rounded out the top-earning applications. Despite the fact that TikTok was the highest-grossing app overall and on the App Store, Google One was the highest-earning app on Google Play. TikTok was also the top downloaded app worldwide in Q3 2021, according to Sensor Tower, followed by Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger.

TikTok just surpassed 3 billion installations worldwide, making it the first non-Facebook app to achieve this milestone. Consumer spending on mobile games has continued to rise, according to Sensor Tower, with PUBG Mobile (including the Chinese localization Game for Peace) taking the top place.

Consumer spending on PUBG Mobile allegedly increased by 11 percent year over year in the third quarter. Following PUBG Mobile in the top-grossing games for Q3 2021 were Tencent's Honor of Kings and miHoYo's mega hit Genshin Impact. According to Sensor Tower, Niantic's Pokémon Go and Roblox Corp's Roblox rounded out the top five, with Pokémon Go having an 8 percent YoY drop in consumer spending and Roblox seeing a 9 percent increase in Q3 2020.

According to the study, first-time installations of mobile games were down 3.5 percent year over year, falling to 13.6 billion across both stores from 14.1 billion in Q3 2020. PUBG Mobile, aside from being the most popular mobile game globally, also had the most downloads, followed by Outfit7's recently released My Talking Angela 2.

Subway Surfers by Sybo Games, Count Masters by Tap2Play, and Garena's battle royale game Garena Free Fire rounded out the top five most-installed games globally.
