Zoom's live translation service is now available to all users, both free and premium. Previously, only paying Zoom Meetings customers could utilize the function that automatically creates closed captions during video chats. For Zoom video conversations and webinars, the option to activate subtitles will be accessible. In addition to keyboard shortcuts, pinning interpreter video, screen reader support, and voicemail interpretation, the San Jose, California-based video conferencing solutions provider has added a slew of additional accessibility capabilities to its platform.
Zoom stated that the live transcription capability will be available to all free users in a blog post. During video calls and webinars, this feature will display automatically created subtitles. Users must enable the capability in Zoom for Web by going to the Meetings tab in the Accounts Management settings and selecting closed captioning. The methods to activate the live transcribing function are outlined on Zoom's website.
Closed captioning is now only accessible in English, but Zoom says it plans to expand to additional languages in the future. Manual captioning is also supported, as well as connection with third-party captioning systems. Account admins can turn on live transcription, and participants in a video call can privately ask the host to turn on closed captions from the meeting toolbar. Zoom has also added a number of accessibility features to its video conferencing platform, making it more user-friendly.
Multi-spotlighting, multi-pinning, and the option to reorganize the gallery display are among them. Users will also be able to choose the size of the conversation as well as the closed captions. Keyboard shortcuts and screen reader assistance have also been added to make navigating easier. Voicemail transcription, text formatting, dark mode, focus mode, and the option to mute or unmute participants with their agreement are among the additional accessibility features.
