Google adds the ability to install apps on AndroidTV via smartphones

Google is rumored to be pushing out the option to download Play store apps from smartphones to Android TV sets. This feature is being sent out as a server-side upgrade, so not all users will see it right away.

However, numerous customers have reported that they now have the option to install programs straight to their Android TV from their phone. For a long time, Google Play's Web version has had this feature, which allows it to distribute apps to Chromecasts and Shield TVs. The capability has now been extended to include cellphones. Several users came to Reddit to announce that Android TVs now have the ability to download applications from smartphones.

New choices appear beneath the install button for individuals who have been granted this power. Users may choose to install on their phone or on an Android TV that is linked to the same Google account. Google labels an app as "Installed on all devices" if it has been installed on all devices. If the app is downloaded on the phone but not on the Android TV, it will prompt users to install it on the TV by placing an install button next to the TV's name.

Chromecast with Google TV was announced back in October , featuring 4K HDR support and a dedicated remote control. The new Chromecast was more akin to Amazon Fire TV as it brings an Android TV interface and not just the ability to cast media on your TV. It supports 4K HDR at up to 60fps, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Vision, DTSX, HDR10+, and H.265 streams.
