Youtube Co-Founder: “YouTube’s decision to hide dislike count on videos is stupid”

Jawed Karim, a co-founder of YouTube, has slammed the video streaming platform's dislike option modification, calling it "a dumb concept." To protect artists from abuse and targeted attacks, YouTube has stated that it will discontinue revealing dislike numbers for all videos uploaded on its site.

However, many YouTube users, including some video creators, have expressed their displeasure with the decision. Karim altered the caption of the first-ever video published on YouTube — "Me At The Zoo" — to indicate his dissatisfaction. "It's probably a bad idea when every YouTuber believes that deleting dislikes is a bad idea. In the caption, he said, "Try again, YouTube." He is the first person to upload a video to YouTube, which is the "Me At The Zoo" video. He is also the co-founder of YouTube. YouTube was later purchased by Google.

Arim also made a remark on a YouTube video that detailed the company's decision to hide the dislike count. YouTube's Creator Liaison, Matt Koval, detailed what the transition will entail to viewers. The hate option, according to Koval, enabled producers to choose if a video was excellent or not, but research teams discovered that groups of viewers were targeting a creator, generally because they didn't like the creator. "Matt isn't excited because he knows he's making the wrong choice," Karim explained.

Surprisingly, the Matt Koval video has 139,000 dislikes compared to only 14,000 likes. The public tally of likes — or dislikes — on a video post is frequently used by critics to argue that it is bad. Users can opt out of the feature on Facebook and Instagram. Users will still be able to click the "dislike" button underneath a video after YouTube's latest change, but producers will no longer be able to see the number of negative reviews. The update, according to YouTube, would shield tiny producers against hate assaults. It aims to foster "respectful exchanges between viewers and artists," according to the statement.
