Walmart has been taking measures to increase the number of drone delivery choices available. For consumers in Farmington, Arkansas, the department store company has opted to expand its site. Small products such as tuna caps, infant necessities, and paper utensils can be ordered by customers within a one-mile radius of the Walmart shop. For drone delivery, Walmart has teamed with DroneUp, a Virginia-based firm.
In the next months, the business will construct drone stations in Arkansas' Rogers and Bentonville. Walmart and Zipline teamed a week ago to become the first commercial drone delivery service in the United States within a 50-mile radius of Pea Ridge, Arkansas. The delivery drone would use a parachute to drop gifts to a select set of recipients from a Zipline plane. DroneUp's services, unlike Zipline's, will only deliver within a mile of a Walmart store.
According to The Verge, Walmart is only taking baby steps with this move because the three locations where DroneUp will operate are already inside Zipline's coverage area. A cable will be used to drop the parcels. Walmart has attempted to incorporate a wide range of products in its drone delivery services. Walmart will send paper cups and plates, crayons, trash bags, mixed fruit cups, vitamins, baby diapers, and packs of buttermilk pancake mix via drone in addition to vital food items and baby food, according to the article.
When ordering things through drone delivery for a $10 delivery charge, there are weight limits. Customers can check out with a total weight of only 4 pounds (about 1.8kg) on the internet. A 3.87-pound carton of Similac infant formula was the heaviest item on the website. Despite the weight restriction, customers cannot sort goods by weight on Walmart's website. Walmart and DroneUp have already experimented with drone delivery. The practice took place in North Las Vegas and Cheektowaga, New York, within a mile of each other.
