Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip announced, will power next-gen Android flagships

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 platform, Qualcomm's latest high-end mobile CPU with a 5G modem for premium Android phones, was revealed on Wednesday. With increased graphics rendering, gaming performance, quicker 5G networking, and greater camera performance, the new chipset provides a lot of benefits. Most high-end Android devices due later this year and early next year will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, and Motorola, according to Qualcomm, are intending to adopt the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile chipset in their next smartphones.

Qualcomm is the industry leader in advancing the mobile ecosystem. Its chips are utilized by the world's largest mobile suppliers and may cost up to $1000, making them compatible with devices like the iPhone 13 Pro Max. "As the world's most advanced mobile platform, Snapdragon is synonymous with premium Android experiences, and the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 sets the bar for the next generation of flagship mobile devices," said Alex Katouzian, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.'s senior vice president and general manager of mobile, compute, and infrastructure.

"It provides never-before-seen connection, photography, AI, gaming, music, and security experiences in a smartphone." The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is manufactured using a 4nm technology and has the Snapdragon X65 5G modem, which supports 10-gigabit download rates. It also supports Wi-Fi 6 and 6E rates of up to 3.6Gbps. In addition to these enhancements, Qualcomm also revealed a number of new features for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, including the company's seventh-generation AI engine, which promises a significant increase in AI work performance and battery efficiency.

In comparison to the previous generation, the new chipset has a brand new Adreno GPU, which gives a 30% gain in graphics rendering capabilities and a 25% improvement in power conservation. Perhaps the most significant change will be in the camera area. Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile CPU will have the world's first 18-bit image signal processor (ISP), which will capture over 4000 times more camera data than its predecessor for extraordinary dynamic range, color, and clarity at rates up to 3.2 gigapixels per second.
