Users Complain: Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro Not Charging With Certain USB Type-C Cables, Chargers

Some customers have reported that while using a conventional USB Type-C connection and charger, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro do not charge. This is a problem because the phone does not come with a charger. Users have claimed that while they can charge other phones with USB Type-C chargers and connections, the newest Pixel phones will not charge. When utilizing a generic charging cable, the problem appears to be more noticeable.

The Pixel 6 series phones were discovered to be charging in some situations, albeit at an incredibly sluggish rate. Some Pixel 6 customers have complained on the Google Pixel Phone Help forums that their phones aren't charging when they use a generic cable or charger, as 9to5Google first reported. "I just bought the item and connected it into my general USB-Type C cable/charger, which I'd been using to charge any other USB-Type C device I'd used up until today." Nothing occurs. There was no charge, no notice, nothing.

One of the afflicted users said on the boards, "It's like it's not connected." Some Pixel 6 Pro owners have also complained about the issue on Reddit, similar to the user complaints on the official product forums. Several consumers have reported that while their Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro begin charging using their regular cords and chargers, the battery takes longer to fully charge. Google has yet to reply to any consumer concerns about existing cords and chargers not charging. "Other Android cords and power adapters might not function with Pixel phones," it states on one of its help sites.

This appears to be a precautionary move to protect the Pixel smartphones' built-in batteries. Both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro feature USB Power Delivery (PD). This means you can charge them with a charger that supports PD. However, if you want a new PD solution, you'll have to spend more than you would for a generic cable or charger. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro both feature 23W peak wired charging speeds, but you'll need the Google charger, which is 30W.
