Croatia\'s leading supermarket chain introduces payments for groceries in 9 cryptocurrencies

For thousands of its clients in Croatia, Konzum, a prominent grocery chain, has permitted crypto payments. Nine cryptocurrencies have been introduced as payment alternatives by the retailer. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Tether, and USD Coin are just a few of the cryptocurrencies available. The Croatian government is currently undecided on the crypto space. In Croatia, bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are not illegal, but they are not recognized by the government.

The country's decision on how to regulate cryptocurrencies is still up in the air. A Konzum representative defended the move, telling the media that the crypto field is developing at an exponential rate and will eventually influence the future. "The addition of cryptocurrency payments demonstrates that Konzum is continually watching worldwide trends, introducing innovations, and setting the benchmark in the retail industry." "We are happy to be leaders in another field that is fast evolving and determining the future," Konzum board member Uro Kalini said, according to news portal Bitcoin.com.

Paycek, a Croatian payment processor, will allow users to select a chosen crypto currency and finish the transaction by scanning a produced QR code. Paycek would give consumers a temporary fixed exchange rate to combat the volatility of the crypto market. For the time being, crypto payments will only be available for Konzum online purchases, but the service will eventually be expanded to include retail transactions as well. This isn't the first Croatian company to accept cryptocurrency payments for its services. Greyp Bikes, a Croatian e-bike firm, began facilitating the purchase of sophisticated cycling items using the same nine cryptocurrencies accepted by Konzum earlier this month.

In addition, 40 Tifon petrol stations began taking cryptocurrency this year, with Paycek facilitating the transactions. Crypto-payments are gaining traction among various firms despite the lack of regulatory frameworks. Tesla, Elon Musk's electric vehicle firm, and AMC Theatres, an American movie theater chain, are among the companies in the United States that accept cryptocurrency payments. Crypto payments have risen in El Salvador since Bitcoin was legalized in the Central American country earlier this September.
