GM announces electric versions of the Chevy Equinox and Blazer SUVs

Mary Barra, the CEO of General Motors, revealed that electric versions of the Chevy Equinox and Blazer SUVs will be ready in 2023. The electric Chevy Equinox will have a suggested retail price of $30,000, which might encourage more people to buy electric automobiles in the United States. Barra made the news during his keynote speech at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show, where the firm also unveiled its electrified Chevy Silverado pickup vehicle.

The majority of electric vehicles on the market now are more expensive than their gas-powered counterparts, while EV sales are increasing as more models become available. GM is betting that a more inexpensive EV with a well-known moniker like the Equinox would help accelerate the transition to electric vehicles.

Other EV manufacturers have promised low-cost models only to be thwarted by battery pricing, supply chain issues, and other external reasons. Chevy would be at the vanguard of GM's $35 billion plan to electrify its complete portfolio by 2040 if the Equinox EV and Blazer EV arrive. In addition, the Chevy Bolt EV and EUV, the Hummer EV truck and SUV, the GMC Sierra EV, and the Cadillac Lyriq and Celestiq are all produced by the business.

GM, on the other hand, only sold a few electric vehicles in 2021, putting it well behind Tesla, which controls around two-thirds of the EV market in the US because to its comparatively inexpensive Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. In 2021, Tesla shipped approximately one million automobiles, a new high for the firm.
