Report: Microsoft has discontinued all Xbox One consoles

Microsoft has halted the production of all Xbox One consoles. The Xbox One X and digital Xbox One S were initially discontinued ahead of the arrival of the Xbox Series X, but Microsoft discreetly ceased producing the Xbox One S at the end of 2020, forcing stores to sell off their remaining stock.

According to Cindy Walker, senior director of Xbox console product marketing, "to focus on manufacture of Xbox Series X / S, we ended production for all Xbox One consoles by the end of 2020." Microsoft's announcement comes as a Bloomberg report claims that Sony had intended to stop producing PS4 consoles at the end of 2021, but will now produce approximately a million in 2022. Sony has stated that PS4 production is continuing underway, despite Microsoft and Sony's problems to satisfy demand for their respective Xbox Series X and PS5 systems.

However, Microsoft appears to be able to satisfy demand for the $299 Xbox Series S. The Xbox Series S is now available from Amazon in the United Kingdom and Best Buy in the United States. Xbox CEO Phil Spencer stated shortly after the debut of the Xbox Series X / S in 2020 that the business had created more Xbox Series X consoles than Series S consoles, but that the Series S will ultimately win out due to its cheaper price point.

"We can actually fit more Series S [chips] in the same [chip] die area as the Series X," Spencer explained. That's one of the reasons why Xbox Series S stock has remained stable, despite Microsoft's plan to secretly abandon the Xbox One S in favor of its next-generation consoles.
