Xbox November update brings new accessibility options, audio settings and more

Microsoft has released the Xbox November 2021 update, which adds new features and enhancements to Xbox Series S/X and Xbox One consoles. Accessibility improvements include new color filters for current-gen console owners, as well as improved audio options for all Xbox systems that improve the user experience while using headphones. Developers will be allowed to use accessibility feature tags to titles in Microsoft Store, in addition to upgrades to specific Xbox controllers and an upgraded Xbox mobile app, according to the firm.

Microsoft claimed in a blog post explaining the improvements included in the November Xbox update that it has included new and better color filters to Xbox Series S/X consoles to allow players with color blindness or color vision insufficiency to enjoy games that were previously unavailable to them. After the update, users will be able to pick from three color filters under Settings > Accessibility > Color filters: Deuteranopia, Protanopia, and Tritanopia. Unlike other games that provide such a feature, Microsoft claims that the effects of an applied color filter will be apparent across the system in all games, movies, applications, and menus.

Gamers may also toggle these filters while watching on the console using the guidance under Profile & system > Quick settings. Another accessibility feature that the firm has implemented is the ability for game creators to define which accessibility features their games support, such as customizable difficulty, unique volume controls, color choices, and input remapping. According to Microsoft, over 325 titles, including Sea of Thieves and Microsoft Flight Simulator, currently show accessibility statistics on the Microsoft Store, Xbox website, Xbox Game Pass mobile app, and Xbox app for Windows PC.

The Xbox One Wireless Controller, Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, and Xbox Adaptive Controller all get new firmware as part of the upgrade. Lower latency, greater cross-device connection, and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) are now available on these controllers, as they are on the more modern Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X controllers. Microsoft has also included an option to "mute speaker audio while headset is attached" to the Xbox Series S/X and Xbox One consoles. This feature, which can be found under Settings > Additional settings, eliminates the need for gamers to modify their speaker level independently when using a headset. Meanwhile, to better control volume and output settings, the business has created a new Audio testing & information panel under Settings.

The Xbox mobile app has also been upgraded with a new link sharing function that allows gamers to obtain a link to images and exceptional in-game events that can subsequently be shared with anybody on the Internet. Gamers will also be able to watch or comment on game clips posted by other players, as well as browse information depending on what is trending on the app. The Xbox November update is now available for all Xbox Series S/X and Xbox One consoles, and owners can check for updates by going to Profile & system > Settings > System > Updates on their device.
