eSewa appoints Parshuram Kunwar Chettri as Chairperson, company extends its gratitude to former chairperson Mr. Asgar Ali

Nepal’s premier and pioneering digital payment platform, eSewa, appoints Parshuram Kunwar Chettri as chairperson. Kunwar, who has extensive experience in the banking and finance sector, has been appointed by the board of directors as chairperson of the company.

He took his oath of office and secrecy before Mr. Guru Prasad Poudel, Executive Director, Payment Service Department of Nepal Rastra Bank on Wednesday.

Kunwar has three and half decades of experience in the banking sector. He started his career in 1986 with Standard Chartered, and also spent several years with Nepal Bank and Citizen’s Bank International. Before eSewa, he served as CEO of Bank of Asia, Janata Bank, and Global IME Bank. After retiring from CEO of Global IME Bank in 2020, Kunwar has been involved in different training and teaching engagements in the banking and finance sector.

“eSewa is a pioneer and leader in the digital payment sector in the country”, said Kunwar upon his appointment. “I am very happy to be serving as CEO of this prestigious organization, and will be using my experience in corporate governance, strategic management and compliance to elevate the organization to new heights”.

eSewa extends its gratitude to Mr. Asgar Ali, former chairperson of the company, who was CEO at the inception of the organization and has been instrumental it's success.

His contribution to the digital payment sector of Nepal has been invaluable. eSewa is the leading digital payment platform in Nepal, through which different payments such as electricity, water, phone recharge, airfares, bus fares, school/college fees, and other payments can be made seamlessly.

It has partnered with 51 banks and financial institutions, due to which deposits and withdrawals to and from eSewa can easily be done. Currently, over 6 million people have eSewa accounts, and over millions of people are using its services through the 150,000 eSewa agents scattered throughout the country.
